Hard chrome plating is a thick chromium plating on the surface of various substrates. Its thickness is generally above 20 μm. The characteristics of chromium are used to improve the hardness, wear resistance, temperature resistance and corrosion resistance of parts.

Hard chrome has a wide range of applications, such as mechanical molds, cylinder pistons, measuring tools, cutting and drawing tools, and so on. It is also applied to repair worn parts and over-cut pieces, making those parts reusable.
